About Yeoville

It was many years ago that I fell in love with the look of Border Collies, and then I went head over heels for their nature. My first two Borders- Duke and Jester -taught me considerable amounts in the obedience and agility rings, also competed in endurance events, and did large amounts of television and stage acting. I then moved on to include conformational showing and much later flyball in my dog sports with the newer members of my canine family. What I love about Border Collies the most is their intelligence and devotion, their good health and their beautiful athleticism, with graceful effortless movement. I aspire most of all to bring these qualities out in any pup I should breed. I chose the name Yeoville as my breeding prefix because it has special significance to my family name.

I think Border Collies are the best dogs in the world but they are not the breed for everyone. They are highly intelligent, sensitive dogs who are not tolerant to rough handling or teasing, and they are a working/herding breed so they are active and like to run and chase. If you do not train them and keep them stimulated mentally they will find other ways to amuse themselves in your backyard. They are an extremely rewarding breed to own because they are so loving and communicative, wanting to please and learn from you, and desiring to be included in all family activities. Obviously, they are ideal dogs for activities like obedience, agility, tracking and flyball, but they are also great companions for people who like having a dog around and who get out for regular walks or jogs. It is my opinion that they do not require hours on end of exercise as some people think, rather I would emphasise communication (general obedience and training), inclusion in the family and mental stimulation (ie food based problem-solving toys and games) with regular exercise. They are truly beautiful looking dogs but they also do require regular grooming- this is easy to do providing you have the right equipment and you teach them from a puppy that grooming is part of life. Border Collies are probably not the dog for those who are lazy!
